5 years of brutality and bloodshed have turned Syria into the epicentre of a massive humanitarian crisis.
Civilians are attacked and killed every single day, and we risk losing a whole generation of children to the conflict. Civilians in besieged areas continue to suffer and die from lack of food and medical care. More than half the population has fled their homes including nearly five million who have left the country in what has become the world’s worst displacement crisis since World War II. Tens of thousands remain missing after being arrested solely for doing their jobs or exercising their human rights, including journalists, doctors and lawyers.
Repeated UN resolutions have been passed but the daily torment of millions continues. Multiple nations are militarily involved, including members of the Security Council. 5 years ago, Syrian citizens took to the streets, demanding a better life. Millions of them, against all the odds, remain, desperately trying to help their families survive. As the world marks five years since the start of the crisis, Syrians, humanitarian and human rights organisations and activists from all over the world are coming together in a global show of solidarity to say that enough is enough.
We will not stand by while Syria continues to burn.
